At The Curtain Room we believe that the client is the foremost influence in the design process. The Curtain Room’s philosophy is not based on ‘hard sell’, we would rather take the time to understand our clients needs and desires. Whether it be a simple blind or a complete room we are all too happy to listen and work with your ideas. We are always at hand from your first enquiry to the completion and installation of your order to discuss the finer points of your interior creation. The Curtain Room offers a free consultation and design service in your home which is after all the natural place to discuss your furnishing ideas and tastes. Sometimes The Curtain Room get enquiries from customers who profess that they have no idea as to what they would like or what will fit in an existing room. It is surprising how quickly that view can change after a look through some of our inspirational books and our comprehensive selection of samples. The Curtain Room are able to provide our clients with a wide choice of fabric and wallpapers from our beautiful and diverse collections. Alternatively we are more than happy to source fabrics that we do not normally stock. Or we can work with fabric that you may already have put aside for that ‘special occasion’. The Curtain Room’s unique offering is based on a timeless tradition of hand made style. We proudly create all of our works on our own premises including stunning bespoke iron poles and restored antique upholstery. We are also happy to provide elegant accessories from our range including lighting, mirrors and furniture to rival only the best high street collection. At The Curtain Room we are equipped to combine the best tradition of handmade window dressings and furnishings with materials to suit the widest range of budgets.
Melanie Casling - Design Principal
Melanie Casling was classically trained in antique restoration, traditional upholstery and interiors. Melanie is never happier than when up to her knees in horse hair and wadding working on a restoration project. Melanie’s influences certainly lie on the classical and antique side of interiors and has an especially keen eye for the subtle blend of new meets old. Having founded and run the very successful ‘Curtains by Design’ Melanie returned from a sabbatical in the south, working on the Changing Rooms TV show and as a sales and marketing professional. Fully refreshed she is now the creative driving force behind The Curtain Room. Melanie has now escaped the rat race (and the feint smell of MDF and brightly coloured emulsion paint) relocating to the vicinity of her birth near the historic town of York. With a wry smile Melanie admits that interior design and traditional curtain making have always been where the heart is.
